In this hands on course you will learn to create beautiful cyanotype and albumen prints of your work. Both processes consist of creating light sensitive emulsion that is brushed onto paper, fabric, glass or wood, and exposed in sunlight or with UV light. You will also learn to tone the prints using non-toxic chemicals. The course runs over 6 weeks.
Learn to create beautiful cyanotype and albumen prints of your work. The Cyanotype process will give you unique shades of cyan-blue prints. Albumen varies a great deal depending upon the treatment given during processing, but most often it is a brown coloured print. It can resemble a platinum/palladium print, but is less expensive in the making.
Each participant is expected to conduct the process from their own workplace, with me guiding you step by step along the way, from my studio. In our first meeting I will give you suggestions for how to organize your workspace. You will be given assignments in between classes, that are meant to help you practice the different steps in the process.
You will need to supply your own equipment and chemistry to join this workshop. In short you will need UV-lamps, contact print frame (or 2 pieces of glass and clips to hold them together), water color paper, negatives in the size you want your print, trays, a dim room with 40 watt bulbs or less, and running water. Plus brushes, tape, gloves, apron, eyedroppers, and chemistry. A detailed list will be sent to you upon registration with suggestion of suppliers.
